"Books are the plane, and the train, and the road. They are the destination, and the journey. They are home.”
Anna Quindlen-How Reading Changed My Life

"The more that your read, the more things you'll know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." Dr. Seuss

Our 4th Annual Read-a-Thon has begun! Your student should have brought home their packet on Thursday.  It's a large yellow folder with all the information you'll need.

Goals-to get students excited about reading,  to beat last years total minutes (26,000)and to raise $5,000.  In order to meet our goal, we are asking that each student try to collect at least $20 in pledges.  With this goal, we would be able to add about 1,000 books to our Guided Reading Library!

*Every student that turns in their reading will receive 2 tickets (even without any pledges).
*For every 20 minutes a student reads, a snowflake with his/her name on it will be hung in the media center. So, if a student reads 100 minutes, they'll have 5 snowflakes hanging.
*For every $10 in pledges the student receives, he/she will receive 1 ticket. So if a student raises $80, they will get 8 tickets plus 2 tickets for turning in their log.  They will have 10 tickets to put into the prize boxes of their choice!
(Prize sheet attached with just 'some' of the awesome prizes this year!)
In addition to great prizes that can be won with tickets...
-Pizza Party for the classroom that has the most minutes!
-Pizza Party for the classroom that raises the most money!
-$25 Scholastic gift certificate for the student who reads the most minutes!
-$25 Scholastic gift certificate for the student who raises the most money!
-Surprise treat at lunch for the WHOLE SCHOOL if we reach our goal of $5,000!
